In the Maasai Mara
"Small, Luxury & Exclusive."
Tired of the hustle and bustle of city life? Or are you an enthusiastic photographer wanting to capture those once in a lifetime photographs of African wildlife? Well, you are in the right place!
The Mara Olapa camp, situated inside the Maasai Mara Reserve is conveniently nestled near Kaboso Crossing, Double Cross and the Marshes of Musiara. Our unique location is highly conducive to sightings of our resident leopards and lions and often, within 10 minutes of leaving camp, you could be sitting with a pride of lions or the elusive leopard. Mara Olapa camp is unfenced, giving the small plains game the freedom of movement within the camp. We do however take our client safety very seriously and have Maasai Moran guards at hand throughout during the day and night.
The camp consists of six luxurious ensuite safari tents, tastefully decorated in African themed décor, large comfortable beds with Egyptian cotton whites, a private verandah and a fully functional bathroom with a safari style shower and flushing toilet. All tents are strategically constructed under tree shade providing stunning views and avoiding excessive heat build-up during the day. The layout of the Camp is such that each tent has a private feel to it. Futhermore, We also have a very spacious family tent consisting of two ensuite rooms and a lounge available for families visiting the camp.
There is nothing like a gourmet meal after a long day in the bush. Our chef serves a mouthwatering variety of freshly prepared cuisines, served in an A la Carte style in our enticing and cozy dining tent. Should you want to do a full day safari, our chef would be delighted to pack you a full picnic lunch. Adjacent to the dining tent is our luxurious lounge tent, decorated with rustic hints of wilderness charm, which is guaranteed to provide a relaxing evening including a large selection of drinks. Alternatively, you can exchange the day’s stories with the Maasai Morans at the fireplace under the moon and stars, only disturbed by the distant (or sometimes not so distant!) roars of lions.
Game drives at Mara Olapa Camp are either in your private car or the camp cars. The camp has specially adapted open Land Cruisers, which are higher than standard and equipped with several features allowing the optimum game viewing experience. Our guides and drivers are highly trained with the flora and fauna of Maasai Mara. Their enthusiasm for spotting and viewing game is very infectious!
You can either fly or drive to the Maasai Mara. There are several daily flights to Musiara Air Strip, which is close to the camp. The drive from Nairobi to Maasai Mara takes approximately 5 hours and is a very scenic route through the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. You can use Sekenani, Talek or Musiara gates to enter the Reserve.
Should you be interested, other activities such as a bush lunch, sundowners, walking safari, hot air balloon safari and a Maasai Village visit can be organised prior to your visit.
Mara Olapa camp runs on solar power and is an eco-friendly bush camp with little impact on the environment and striving to maintain the ecosystem. We also empower the local communities be generating economy and providing employment opportunities.

The staff at the camp were very warm and welcoming and really made our children feel at home.
The accommodation was beautifully decorated and super comfortable... and I loved the hot water bottles that were put into our beds at night!
The food was really great too!
Thank you for the amazing experience - we all truly had a fabulous time!
You will be our Number 1 choice for our next trip to the Mara!
Everything is prepared to make the stay as pleasant as possible and all staff is incredibly kind, warm and caring.
The food is simply amazing, the rooms are extra comfortable and beautiful, the lounge and the restaurant are thoughtfully decorated and welcoming.
From the perspective of someone who stays at Mara Olapa to photograph the wildlife, one single thing could be improved, and that is the internet connection. A stronger signal would make it easier to edit and share photos.
I truly look forward to my next visit and highly recommend staying at Mara Olapa to whoever desires to experience the Park in a very peaceful and respectful way, far from the touristy and noisy atmosphere most places seem incapable to avoid.
My husband and I didn't expect the food in the wilderness to be THIS GOOD! Chef Tony - hats off to you, not only for your amazingly delicious food (who even made dishes I thought I could only dream of in the wilderness) but your kind service you provided us every single day during breakfast, lunch and dinner! This is the uniqueness of this camp, the service! You feel like family the minute you walk into the camp and you very quickly realise how well you will be looked after.
The small details are ALWAYS taken care of. Mary noticed I enjoy peppermint tea after a game drive and to my surprise there was peppermint tea included in our packed breakfast without me asking every day!
I loved going back to the tent after dinner as I knew there was always a hot water bottle waiting for me tucked inside the bed - I can't say any other hotel or camp would take this much care towards their guests!
Overall my stay at Mara Olapa was truly magical, there's no better place to stay when visiting Maasai Mara! Thank you to the whole team who made our stay so memorable - my husband and I have been telling all our friends and family of how amazing our stay was and that is truly because of the hospitable staff at Mara Olapa!
The tents are the perfect balance of rustic and luxurious. You feel like you have everything you need, but are also right there living in the heart of the Mara.
We loved our time here, can't wait to come back! Highly recommend this lodge. Best place ever!
Hands down this was one of the best... read more experiences of our lives and Mara Olapa exceeded our expectations on all fronts. For anyone considering Mara Olapa, I have written a detailed review below for your perusal.
We bought an all inclusive package and they took care of each and every detail under the sun! We were picked up from Nairobi in a very comfortable car and taken to the gate of Maasai Mara. At the gate we met our full English speaking Maasai guide who came in his full Maasai uniform (John) . He drove us to the camp for us to check in and have lunch before our first afternoon game drive.
We were absolutely amazed by the quality, attention to detail and how luxurious the camp was. We were met and greeted by such friendly staff who welcomed us and let us settle in before getting into the formalities of checking in. We were escorted to our luxury tent and given an orientation of the camp. Our tent overlooked the Mara and was a completely safe, robust structure with double lining and double zipped. It included luxury bedding, by far the best pillows I’ve ever slept on, side tables, plug sockets, desk and shelves, a separate shower and toilet and much more. It had all the amenities you would expect in a resort, let alone a Safari Camp! It was clear that the decor in the tent and around the camp was very well thought through and artistic as it always gave you the feel that you were in the wilderness whilst having your own space of luxury. The lodge also included a dining area and lounge which had very good wifi and the perfect place to enjoy some drinks after a game drive.
I’m still gobsmacked at how AMAZING the food was! Chef Anthony (Tony) personally visited us every lunch and dinner to ask us what we’d like to eat for the next day. He would specially make our meals bespoke to exactly how we wanted it and fresh! In Mara Olapa there’s no such thing as a 'standard menu' where the food has been pre made, all meals are freshly prepared and cooked based on your requests. We alternated between Indian, Mexican and Italian over our 4 days and to my surprise Chef Tony was even able to cook the most complicated meals to a Michelin standard.
A special note to the other staff at the camp! They were so warm, welcoming and always willing to do anything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They are so dedicated to attention to detail and ensuring that our needs were met. For example, I was cold on the first morning and asked for a hot water bottle for the game drive, for the remaining 4 mornings the hot water bottles were prepared and placed on my seat in the safari vehicle without me needing to ask again - so thoughtful!
Since Mara Olapa is situated right INSIDE the Masaai Mara, you are able to view game within minutes of leaving the camp, which was great for a wildlife photography enthusiast like myself - you will not waste time on your game drives in transit between your accomodation and the Mara. Mara Olapa have dedicated Maasai staff that are there just for your security and safety around the lodge. They always help with your bags and escort you to your tent during the day and night. During the night, the night staff patrol the camp and don’t sleep a wink to ensure the guests at the camp are safe. It is completely safe and sometimes you are able to hear the animals at night since you are in the game reserve.
There is a true magic about Mara Olapa as you don’t get the feel of a commercialised resort but a bespoke 7* service and that too, in the middle of the Savannah!
Mara Olapa - thank you and we will surely see you again!!!
